Christmas is fast approaching….are you ready? As you might expect, I’m not checking to see whether you have bought the presents, ordered the turkey or put up the decorations. My question is more mundane but no less important. Sad though it may be, one of my (repeated) Christmas time memories is of my Dad fighting the drains with rods on Christmas day, wind and rain howling around him….to his credit he dealt with it (and probably half expected and became resigned to it!).
There is a serious point though. We are all guilty of crisis management. The sensible approach both in terms of dealing with the potential problems when we want to and financially (calling people out at Christmas can be pricey), is maintenance.
So a quick checklist, have you; rodded through your drains, cleared gutters and downpipes of leaves and checked joints and falls, checked aerials, chimneys and roof areas (especially after the recent high winds) and had the boiler serviced? An hour or so now and some modest expenditure could save you a great deal of time and money over the Christmas period. I for one don’t want to continue the Christmas family tradition of drain rodding!
